What you need to do

Assignment Overview

In this assignment, you will take on the role of a Health Policy Analyst working for a national public health organisation. The organisation is evaluating its health equity and accessibility strategy and requires a data-driven approach to assess whether health services and outcomes are distributed fairly across different regions.

There is a concern that urban areas may have better access to healthcare services, while remote Indigenous-majority regions face greater health challenges, such as higher rates of chronic illness, lower life expectancy, or reduced access to preventative care. Your task is to analyse health-related data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), identify key trends, and develop a digital dashboard using Tableau to present insights that will help guide more equitable health policies.

Your report should focus on one or more of the following key aspects:

· Patterns in healthcare accessibility and outcomes across different regions

· Disparities in health conditions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

· Recommendations for policy adjustments to improve health equity

· See lecture materials and tutorial activities for relevant ethical theories and AIATSIS aspects.

· Keep your dashboard simple and impactful – use clear, well-labelled visualisations that directly support your analysis.

· Be critical of the data – identify limitations or gaps in the ABS dataset and discuss their implications.

· Ensure ethical considerations are practical – focus on real-world applicability rather than overly abstract discussions.

· Use screenshots from Tableau to support your findings in the report.

Feedback:

Under normal circumstances, you will receive marks for each criterion via a Canvas rubric within 10-15 working days of submission. Click on Grades to see your results. Usually the reason for each choice of mark is self-evident, the marker will include some written feedback about your performance. You should use this feedback to strengthen your performance in the next assessment item.

Moderation:

All staff who are assessing your work meet to discuss and compare their judgements before marks or grades are finalised.
